Graduate & Certificate Program Student Learning Outcomes

A student who graduates from the Texas A&M College of Nursing with a master’s degree will:

  • Integrate scientific findings from nursing, biophysical science, genetics, population health, quality improvement and organizational sciences for the continual improvement of nursing care across diverse settings.
  • Utilize organizational and systems leadership in developing working relationships and making ethical and critical decisions in the promotion of quality nursing care.
  • Appraise and integrate cultural and ethical approaches in the provision of care to diverse populations.
  • Select therapeutic communication techniques and technologies in the enhancement of professional nursing.
  • Synthesize evidence-based data to communicate, collaborate, conduct research, and solve problems.
  • Apply the concepts of evidence-based practice in the evaluation and design of nursing projects.
  • Apply principles of nursing ethics to nursing research and practice.

MSN-Nursing Education

At the completion of the MSN-Nursing Education degree program, graduates ofthe Texas A&M College of Nursing will be prepared to:

  • Integrate scientific findings from nursing, biophysical science, genetics, public health, quality improvement and organizational sciences for the continual improvement of nursing care across diverse settings.
  • Utilize organizational and systems leadership in developing working relationships and making ethical and critical decisions to promote quality and safe care.
  • Apply principles, methods and tools of quality improvement within an organization to promote quality care.
  • Work as a change agent to apply and disseminate research outcomes within the practice setting.
  • Use patient care and communication technologies to enhance patient care.
  • Intervene at the system level to develop and implement policies that influence health care.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals to manage and coordinate care.
  • Integrate organizational, client centered and culturally centered approaches to plan, deliver and evaluate health care for individuals, families and populations.
  • Influence health care outcomes by integrating advanced knowledge into direct and indirect care.
  • Apply educational theory, techniques, and strategies to facilitate and assess learner development in diverse environments.
  • Develop curriculum utilizing pedagogical strategies to advance nursing practice in educational and clinical environments.

MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner

At the completion of the MSN-Family Nurse Practitioner degree program, graduates ofthe Texas A&M College of Nursing will be prepared to: 

  • Conduct a comprehensive and systematic assessment of health and illness incorporating ethical, diverse and culturally sensitive approaches.
  • Design, implement and evaluate therapeutic and preventative interventions based on nursing science, and other sciences and humanities.
  • Develop and sustain therapeutic relationships and partnerships with individuals, families or populations.
  • Use effective communication strategies to develop, participate and lead interprofessional teams and partnerships.
  • Demonstrate advanced levels of clinical judgment, systems thinking and accountability in designing, delivering and evaluating evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate organizational and systems leadership in the provision of quality and safe patient care.
  • Integrate principles of quality improvement, informatics and current and emerging technologies to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Guide, mentor and support nurses and others to achieve excellence in patient care.
  • Educate and guide individuals and groups in health-related transitions throughout the lifespan.
  • Analyze the links among practice, organizational, population, fiscal and policy issues to advocate for improved patient outcomes.

MSN-Forensic Nursing

At the completion of the MSN-Forensic Nursing degree program, graduates of the Texas A&M College of Nursing will be prepared to:

  • Design interdisciplinary education and crime prevention strategies to address community needs at the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention levels.
  • Provide nurse advocacy for victims of violence through unbiased, thorough documentation of assessments, and proper evidence collection and preservation in a manner useful in civil and criminal court proceedings.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

At the completion of the DNP degree program, graduates of the Texas A&M College of Nursing will be prepared to: 

  • Apply implementation science as a framework to design, implement, and lead best practices at the highest level of advanced nursing practice.
  • Act as a practice scholar to analyze, evaluate, and advance quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of patient care and systems of care.
  • Design innovative, evidence-based advanced nursing approaches to reduce health disparities, promote health and high-quality outcomes for individuals, populations, and health systems.
  • Engage with and lead high performing inter-professional teams to co-create solutions that promote health outcomes and health care delivery.
  • Construct innovative solutions to complex health issues using information systems, data analysis, and technology.
  • Lead development of nursing practice and health care policy based on principles of social justice, health equity, and cultural sensitivity.

Graduate Forensic Health Care Certificate

At the completion of the graduate certificate program, graduates ofthe Texas A&M College of Nursing will be prepared to:

  • Respond to victims and perpetrators of trauma, injury, accidents, neglect, abuse, exploitation, and all forms of violence using evidence-based protocols within systems.
  • Translate current research and policies to clinical encounters with persons experiencing violence, injury, trauma, accidents, neglect, abuse, exploitation, and all forms of victimization
  • Articulate the role and processes of criminal and civil courts in seeking justice for victims of violence.
  • Document techniques to collect and preserve evidence with integrity, competence, and respect.        
  • Formulate interdisciplinary approaches within systems to address health-related problems associated with accidents, trauma, crime, victimization, abuse, neglect, exploitation, and all forms of violence.
  • Integrate knowledge of cultural diversity in working with victims and survivors of violence.
  • Advocate for the needs and interests of victims of violence to improve access to services.
  • Design interdisciplinary education and crime prevention strategies to address community needs at the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention levels.

Post-Graduate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate

At the completion of the post-graduate certificate program, graduates of the Texas A&M College of Nursing will be prepared to:

  • Provide quality care within the scope of practice of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Evaluate and utilize research within the role of a nurse practitioner who specializes in psychiatric mental health nursing.
  • Provide ethical psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner care that is tailored to the unique culture and lives of the diverse populations of people served.
  • Serve the people of the state, nation, and world as a leader with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner competencies.
  • Integrate communication and technology-based skills into the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner role.
