DNP-Extreme Environment Nursing

Program Overview

The DNP-Extreme Environment Nursing program prepares nurses to lead and deliver care in resource-limited environments, including aerospace, alpine, arctic, desert, maritime, tropical and urban conflict zones. This track of nursing study at the doctoral level is unique to Texas A&M.

Rooted in systems thinking, operational leadership, trauma-informed care and environmental adaptability, this clinical doctorate empowers graduates to function at the highest level of practice where conventional health systems may not exist or may have collapsed. It also aligns with emerging national and global needs in disaster preparedness, humanitarian relief, interagency collaboration, veteran and military health care, planetary health and telehealth.

The DNP-Extreme Environment Nursing program is delivered asynchronously online over seven semesters. Students, who must have a graduate degree in nursing to qualify for admission, take classes part time and may complete most clinical hours in their own communities.
