HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) at Texas A&M is a two-year, home-based educational enrichment program that builds on the natural bond between a parent and child. The home visiting model helps parents with limited formal education prepare their preschool-aged children for successful early school experiences and strengthens the bonds among schools, families and communities.
- Instruction is given weekly during home visits. Six additional parent meetings are held during the year based on topics chosen by parents.
- HIPPY is a 30-week curriculum and offers a Little Learners cirriculum for age 2. Summer curriculum is also included; Child must have turned 3 or 4 by Sep. 1.
- Home educators role play curriculum with parents. This promotes a comfortable, non-threatening learning experience.
- Staff includes a professional coordinator with background in education and training in the HIPPY model. The coordinator supervises home educators who make weekly visits.
