Practicum Opportunities

MPH, MHA and DrPH students at the School of Public Health are required to complete a practicum experience as part of their curriculum. The practice experience provides an opportunity to practice public health outside of the classroom. Practicum experiences occur in a variety of settings and have happened across the globe.

PRACTICUM APPLICATION

The purpose of this project is to contribute to the work of the Program of Excellence for Mothers, Children, and Families (POEMCF) team. The POEMCF encompasses five grant-funded programs.

The overall objectives of the project are to:

  • Identify and contribute to research and data needs of the POEMCF, in conjunction with the program director and principal investigator.
  • Contribute to development of the resource guide for the HRSA grants and Olivia Health
  • Participate in community outreach efforts to promote the POEMCF and its associated programs.
  • Participate in all team activities, including weekly meetings and education offerings.

FULL PROJECT DETAILS

This project aims to validate a Gamulation intervention to enhance diabetes knowledge and management skills among underserved populations with type 2 diabetes. The project will be conducted at the Health For All free clinic in Bryan which serves an uninsured population specifically. Students who work on this project will interact with the healthcare team at clinical, experience first hand how social determinants of health impact health outcomes (such as language and cultural barriers, financial disadvantage, social insecurity, and low health literacy) and identify potential solutions that could mitigate existing health disparities. Students will also have the opportunity to assist with implementing and evaluating the intervention.

 

FULL PROJECT DETAILS

The purpose of this project, Houston County Mobile Clinic, through the Texas A&M College of Nursing Mobile Care Access through Rural Engagement and Education, is a newly established mobile nurse practitioner-led school-based clinic to improve access and expand experiential learning opportunities for nursing students.

The student will develop a comprehensive list of community resources, stakeholders, and services in Houston County. The student will facilitate coordination of service delivery and community resources at the five ISDs. The student will prepare and assist with presentations to community stakeholders to improve relationships and develop interest in clinic usage.
