On behalf of the College of Nursing Research Office, we are pleased to highlight and celebrate the many key milestones achieved during Calendar Year 2025.
Key metrics in assessing research productivity include the amount of extramural grant funding received annually, yearly research expenditures and number of peer-reviewed publications and professional presentations. Fiscal Year 2025 sponsored research, outreach and education funding expenditures exceeded $9.9 million. As reflected in the graph below, sponsored research, service and outreach continue to increase significantly. Faculty research scholarship included over 100 journal articles, books, chapters and professional presentations.
Each year, the college recognizes outstanding nurse scientists for their contributions to advancement of nursing research through the Dean’s Best Paper Award, Dean’s Research Excellence Award, Dean’s Emerging Researcher Award and Dean’s Seedling Awards:
Dean’s Best Paper Award recognizes a faculty member for an outstanding peer-reviewed publication on a study or topic that was published in the last year in a highly regarded journal. The selected paper advances knowledge of health, quality of life, nursing science or nursing education and is aligned with the scholarly agenda of the faculty member. The 2025 award recipient was Dr. Robin Page for her article, "Maternal Peripheral Blood Telomere Length and Preterm Birth in African American Women" published in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
The Dean’s Emerging Researcher Award recognizes one faculty member based on overall scholarly productivity and contributions to the field of nursing. The 2025 winner was Dr. Ya-Ching Amanda Huang for her work in chronic disease self-management and in advancing accessible, community-based interventions, including pioneering integration of gamulation technologies blending gaming and simulation to enhance patient education.
The Dean’s Research Excellence Award recognizes one outstanding faculty member for exemplary scientific contributions to nursing research and science. The 2025 winner was Dr. Kelly Wilson, a leading expert in her field committed to translating research into practice interventions and policies promoting adolescent well-being. She is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in evidence-based and scalable programming.
